A little jaunty, a little sweaty, mostly legal, Boxcar Speakeasy makes hot jazz music in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Drawing inspiration from the founding fathers of jazz—Kid Ory, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet—and mixing it with later artists like Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and Pete Fountain, they make their own sound. Their live performances feel less like Preservation Hall concerts, but more like CBGB gigs.
